| My Worst Financial Blunder |
| By Gerard Goebel |
I would have to say that I don’t have just one financial blunder. Unfortunately, I am guilty of being one of the worst shoppers around. Usually when I have cashed my check from work, I just have to buy something. It doesn’t matter what it is – it could be a CD, a trip to the movies, or, like most of the time, I could just spend my money on fast food. When I have cash, I have a huge hole burning in my pocket. My mom always has to tell me that I should save the money, but my stomach has first priority. But I do work hard to save the vast majority of my paycheck. One purchase, I must say, has to be the worst buy of my life. I think I was about 12 years old when I bought a video game that I beat about an hour and a half after actually buying it. It was Mission Impossible for the Nintendo based on the movie with Tom Cruise, and the missions in the game were way too easy. After the utter disappointment, I tried to return the game. They asked me what was wrong with it and I told them I already beat it, so I’d like to return it. They said that they would not take it back. So I think a couple of years later, I sold it at a yard sale for about $5. The game cost about $40 brand new. I lost about $35 and didn’t even enjoy the game. |
