Getting it All in Order
By Lauren Pahnke
Learning to save your money at an early age is one of the most helpful tools in life and will lead to success. My name is Lauren and I am 15 years old. I always had a savings account at my credit union but never really paid much attention to it or even used the account. Before about a month ago I had a total of about $5.00 in the account. Recently though, I set up my CU Succeed teen account. That was an easy start to something big. It was especially good in my situation because I am starting my first job. All right, I know enough about me, but here is the important part about how my credit union helped me manage my money.

When I got the account I first thought it would be a way to get my money easier, so I could spend my money faster on clothes and other material things that I really do not need. Now that I get tips and a regular paycheck through work, I have money coming in that I can save for college, a car, and other things. Now that I have the account, I make regular deposits. I feel like I have a lot more responsibilities coming into my life right now and the CU Succeed account is something that just makes the financing easier. Now that I can deposit, withdraw and even check on my account at home, I have improved my money managing skills. I look every week at what I have to pay, like cell phone bills, money owed to my mom for tanning and other things that come up. I also set aside $20 a week for things I might want to buy. Daily, I also save a portion of my money and make sure I do not spend it, so I will have more money in the future. Now that I have learned to manage my money, I realize that I’ve overcome a great hurdle and have skills that I will need to use in the future.
